The comprehensive course structure includes a study manual, access to interactive e-learning and support from expert educators to guide you through a sensory adventure across Spain. 25 horas study on top of the class room time is recommended before the course.
Spain is home to over 140 appellations. SWE introduces you to 23 of the most influential. Each wine is presented within a regional and cultural context while landmarks and traditional cuisine are highlighted to complete the curriculum.

DAY 1
A brief history of Spain,climate, soils and topography, understanding Spanish wine law. Reading Spanish wine labels, primary grape varieties and wine styles and cuisine.
Visit Galicia, part of «Green Spain», where cool weather grapes like Albariño, Godello, and Mencía pair impeccably with the local cuisine. Take a tour along the Duero River and visit the land of Tempranillo in DO Ribera del Duero and DO Toro and Verdejo from DO Rueda; and be tempted by some of the world’s finest cured ham. Discover Rioja, one of Spain’s largest and most important appellations Learn with Rioja has some of the world’s most sought-after wines.
DAY 2
Visit Cataluña, the land of Gaudi, where the wines from DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant showcase the marriage of Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena. Dive into the specifics of Spain’s bubbly Cava and learn how it differs from other sparkling wines
Learn about the world’s largest designation of origin, DO La Mancha, as well as DO Vinos de Madrid, situated just on the outskirts of the capital city. Explore the lesser-known, yet incredibly important, grapes of Monastrell and Bobal from DO Jumilla and DO Utiel-Requena. Jet to the Canary Islands to learn how grapes grow in a place where they technically shouldn’t.
Immerse yourself in the world of the luscious sweet wines of DO Malaga. Visit Sherry country and unravel the mystery of one of the world’s great fortified wines.
Learn how sherry can be both an aperitif and digestif – and everything in between!
